War

01 November 2006 by Vemana

Revolutions brought progress; wars have brought in change, maybe good or for bad. If it weren’t for wars and for the rulers’ desire to conquer the world we wouldn’t have been such an intelligent and cosmopolitan race. The intermingling of races happened due to force, which brought in opportunities. The world was first, discovered completely and then shrank due to imperialism. Human race is now an amalgam of different races, faiths, cultures, traditions, fears and superstitions. Shouldn’t we thank the concept of war to provide us an excuse to foray into newer fields and investment into research? Right from their intelligent art of war of Sun Tzu, the discipline and the catapults of ancient warfare through the industrial revolution they generated to the modern luxuries of internet, GPS etc were result of wars and military.

Wars aren’t the bane of mankind. They have been critical for human achievement. I acknowledge that wars have a huge ugly face and several wars were totally unwarranted for and inhuman, but calling war itself inhuman is ridiculous. Wars and our accomplishments in them are something we should be proud of because it is something we give in our best. War has this beauty of life (though it feeds on it), rules laid but not necessary followed. Though unfair you have no excuse, no turning back; you have to take it as it comes, however it does. There is no compromise when we go to war. It is a single minded effort for which the common man of the nation is ready to take pains and bear the burden. He does so because he believes with all his heart in something. A nation against another, a community against it repressors, a cult against its rivals, a man against the society goes to war because of his faith in a supreme ideal worth fighting and dying for. This above all others is a human trait. War is a result of tremendous love of man for his faith and beliefs and more importantly his willingness to stand up for it.

Do u dare believe in something which means more than anything else to u?
Would u go to war defending them??

I disagree!
We discovered the wheel, we WEREN'T at war! we discovered fire.... we made the steam engine... Achievements surely.... din need a war, did it?

If everything we do is because we have to live up to something... coz we are fighting against another nation.... THEN why do we HATE exams? Aren't we all supposed to become einsteins coz we have driving forces like exams/wars to study/progress?

We aren't against wars, we are just better off without them. We dun need them to progress... we'd progress anyway... Faster perhaps.

Poo. Necessity is the mother of invention. I agree with wheel and fire.. they were more of discoveries..(yaa wheel too was invented after discovering rolling motion of a log)
The wars are the times where we need our best resources.. warfare brought in guns.. large prod og guns brought in Industrial revolution.. I aint saying w/o wars we wud be no where but wars and military speedened up our evolution..

i Disagree(notice the uppercase)..lol

so where do i begin, i either missed a very profound undercurrent in your article or it is downright silly.

There are two different focus points in your article that i would like to throw some light on, first you talk about the wars, the battles waged between nations and socities for a cause and the second talks about personal challenges and fighting for one's beliefs. Now it is quite outrageous to club both these aspects that are contrasting not just in concept but also in implementation.

about war: "Wars aren’t the bane of mankind"...sorry to say this, but evidence clearly states wars are a harbinger of hatred and violence. They are a bad example of human achievement. Which wars are you talkin about? the world wars were a
disaster. they brought more death and sadness into the lives of millions of people across the globe than anything else. if you wish to go back to the middle ages, the crusades and the conquests of alexander the great, they merely form the part of a folklore that we read about in our history books. it is important to understand that the people who fought then never really had the notion of FREEDOM that we take for granted these days. they were mere slaves: god fearing and puppets in the hand of the emperor.
It is this freedom that people have longed for and through the ages have fought for it.

about personal challenges: We live in a world that is constantly changing and with it change out view of it, we are perenially grilled with challenges that some are wise to face while others succumb. one would resort to unfair means to achieve what they want but the bottom line is they WERE WRONG in doing so. immense faith in one's beliefs and thoughts wouldnt and shouldnt culminate to actions of destruction and despair. If the bush administration was right at believin in what they did, if their actions are a result of a righteaous judgement, then where are the results; besides the loss of life and widespread despair nothin positive came out of it.

lastly, i wish to bring to your notice the surprisin contrast in your article titled "believe". you suggest that humans believe in what they want to and act accordingly and in doing so fail to comprehend the repurcussions of their actions.
wars are quite similar, they are the result of blind belief in ones thoughts with a supreme lack of sensible reasoning.

war: an act meant to reveal that nothin comes from violence, nothin ever could, for all those born under an angry star lest we forget how fragile we are...

PS: i reiterate, i still feel i have missed somethin ulterior in what you have written, if thats the
case then a better explanation and elaboration on your views are demanded,otherwise....and i am sorry to say this: alexander would be happy to take another soldier for his army!!

PPS: i couldnt have asked for a better moment to quote this and i am sure you'll love it....

He said I'm gonna buy this place and see it go
Stand here beside me baby watch the orange glow
Some'll laugh and some just sit and cry
But you just sit down there and you wonder why
So I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something WORTH FIGHTING for
I'm gonna buy this place, that's what I said

BLAME IT ALL UPON A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD...

in the name of coldplay and all thats beautiful in this world, blame it all upon a rush of blood to the head...! CHEERS
